Bali International Hospital Set to Open in April 2025
The Bali International Hospital will commence operations in April 2025, following a three-month trial period.
Erick Thohir, Indonesia's Minister for State-Owned Enterprises, announced that the Bali International Hospital (BIH), located within the Sanur Special Economic Zone, is scheduled to begin operations in April 2025. This announcement follows a meeting with President Prabowo Subianto, where Thohir confirmed the anticipated opening timeline.
The hospital, which is nearing completion, will enter a three-month trial phase from January to March 2025 to ensure that all systems function optimally before the official inauguration. Thohir stated that the trial will be executed in three distinct phases. The first phase in January will involve the operation of the facility with stand-in patients to fine-tune workflows and systems. In February, the second phase will treat selected real patients, and the final phase in March will conduct full-trial operations.
"Our goal is to have the Bali International Hospital fully operational and ready for its formal opening in April, where I plan to meet with President Prabowo to confirm its readiness," said Thohir. He emphasized the importance of this hospital in providing quality healthcare services in Bali, an area that has seen a significant increase in tourism and expatriate residents.
The BIH is being constructed on a 50,000-square-meter site and consists of four floors. As of now, construction is reported to be 97% complete, with 80% of the necessary medical equipment already installed. Thohir noted that the facility will be equipped to meet international healthcare standards, catering to both locals and visitors.
One of the significant aspects of BIH's staffing strategy is the recruitment of Indonesian doctors who have gained experience abroad, often referred to as the medical diaspora. Thohir mentioned that there is a strong interest among these professionals to work at the BIH, although he did not disclose specific numbers regarding their recruitment. Instead, he indicated that details about the hired medical professionals would be made public after the hospital's opening.
"The government is facilitating the formal recognition of their overseas training and experience, which is critical for enhancing the quality of medical care at BIH," Thohir added, highlighting the commitment to employing qualified staff.
In addition to its general healthcare services, BIH is expected to collaborate with renowned institutions, such as the Mayo Clinic, to provide specialized medical services. This partnership aims to elevate the standard of care available in Bali, further establishing the island as a key destination for medical tourism.
As the opening date approaches, the Bali International Hospital is poised to enhance the healthcare landscape in Bali, addressing the needs of a diverse population that includes both locals and the growing expatriate community. The facility is anticipated to play a crucial role in improving access to quality medical services in the region.
With the increasing focus on healthcare infrastructure in Bali, the successful launch of BIH could serve as a model for future developments in the sector, particularly in meeting the healthcare demands of an expanding and diverse population.
